Even the Donald is using the Christian label in his campaign, which is a total farce. He waved a Bible around at one of his rallies.
And when he waved it it was upside down.
here is an excellent article from the salt lake tribune on the issue of having "god" mixed with politics.
the author makes the point that gods are merely a reflection of people's egos who just happen to say whatever it is the believer wants to believe.. here are some excerpts: .

And from one of our founding fathers in the USA:
βAnd here, without anger or resentment, I bid you farewell. Sincerely wishing, that as men and Christians, ye may always fully and uninterruptedly enjoy every civil and religious right, and be, in your turn, the means of securing it to others; but that the example which ye have unwisely set, of mingling religion with politics, may be disavowed and reprobated by every inhabitant of AMERICA.β

Here are some excerpts:
"The Rev. Franklin Graham came to Salt Lake City last week to encourage us to put God back into politics. It was a waste of time. This is Utah. God has never left our politics. We've had (and still have) some really stupid laws to prove it."
"When people look toward their gods, it's amazing how often they find themselves looking into a mirror."
"We have a name for the last time a god ran everything in government β the Dark Ages. And we have a name for it today β the Middle East."
l;ve been giving this some serious consideration lately.l dont have all the answers no one does.we are all entitled to our opinions.l certainly dont believe in evolution as lve researched that subject extensively.lt's important to believe in something even if its for mental health.l believe everything happens for a reason.l also believe if we all live as close to the 10 commandments as possible this world would be a far better place to live and no one can argue with that.

The 1st commandment eliminated freedom of religion.
The 4th commandment was enforced under penalty of death. - Numbers 15:32-36.
Most of the 10 commandments were replaced by a second set of commandments claiming to be just like the first set in Exodus 34:1-26. They don't even add up to ten in the revised commandments.
my dad was recently made an elder about maybe 6 months ago, and now he is never around he's always at work or doing some kind of jw crap.
now he conducts the watchtower study and is even doing the special talk tommorow.
he's become an even more strict controlling jerk than he was before, and i'm never allowed to go out and do anything non jw related because he doesn't have the time.

"I think maybe my dad is just stressed from being an elder?"
Yes.
"Or maybe he is just mentally ill?"
Being a JW is a form of mental illness. Be glad you're sane even if it's driving you mad. Yes, I see the paradox of what I just said.
my best buddy is gone.
i attended his funeral this morning.. on thursday evening, i went to the body "viewing" and it was "family only.
" i am part of the family (through marriage) so, i was there.. i was welcomed with joy and enthusiasm like a long lost (prodigal) sheep.
while we had our eyes fixated on our "one-time" idol the watchtower and their false prophecies like the generation of 1914 that wouldn't pass away, 1975 etc.
; a number of real prophecies were unfolding.
we just weren't taught to look for them.

The process of Hebrew's return to regular usage is unique; there are no other examples of a national language without any native speakers subsequently acquiring several million such native speakers...
Hebrew was not a dead language. There were Rabbis and others who spoke Hebrew along with Yiddish long before they returned to Israel. Their patriotism is what made Hebrew the universal language in Israel.
